Tour Itinerary:

: Day 1: Los Angeles to Beijing; Fly transpacific aboard Northwest Airlines' wide-cabin 747 Jetliner.
: Day 2: Arrive Beijing; Welcome to China's capital, Beijing. You are greeted and escorted to check in to the Gloria Plaza Hotel.
: Day 3: Beijing; Today's tour introduces Tian An Men Square and the Forbidden City's Imperial Palace, with admission to the living quarters, museum and jewelry sections. After lunch, sightseeing at the Summer Palace with a cruise on Lake Kunming.

: Day 4: Beijing; A highlight of your visit to China today: stroll along the ancient ramparts of the renowned Great Wall. After lunch, walk along the Sacred Way to the Ming Tombs and Chang Ling Exhibition Hall.

: Day5: Beijing; A free day-you might join our optional Hutong tour (Check for more information below). You'll be carried by pedicab through Hutong's ancient streets, then visit a courtyard-style family residence, and admire the city view from the Drum Tower Pagoda.

: Day 7: Beijing to Xi’an; Fly to historic Xi'an, ancient capital of China, and check in to the Xi'an Garden Hotel. Then out to sightsee Wild Goose Pagoda.

: Day 8: Xi'an; View the extraordinary life-sized terra-cotta army, no two alike, buried for over 2200 years; Circle Vision Movie; Bronze Chariot and Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum.

: Day 9: Xi'an to Shanghai; Today, take a flight bound for cosmopolitan Shanghai and check in to the Hua Ting Hotel & Towers. The balance of the day is free.

Hutong Half-Day Tour (includes lunch)
This tour takes you back to the old days of Beijing. Hutong is the Chinese name for the ancient city alleys and narrow lanes originally built in the Yuan Dynasty, where neighborhoods are made up of traditional courtyard-style homes. Ride in an old-fashioned pedicab through the Hutong district during this guided tour. Transfers and lunch are included.

Tibetan Lamasery, Mao's Mausoleum and Beihai Park (includes lunch)
Yonghe Lamasery is a famous 17th century Buddhist temple in Bejing, now residence for over 70 Tibetan and Mongolian monks, as well as a 75 foot high Buddha carved from a single piece of sandalwood. Visit Chairman Mao's Mausoleum in historic Tian An Men Square. Beihai Park was the major imperial garden during the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Attractions include the White Pagoda, Nine Dragon Screen and Tuan Chang Temple. Guided tour includes transfers and lunch.

Hongkou (Jewish Heritage) Half-Day Tour
Visit the classic 1930’s-era Peace Hotel and roof garden, built by Victor Sasson; see Ohel Rachel Synagogue (now used by the Shanghai Education Commission); visit the Ohel Moishe Synagogue, the center of an active Jewish community prior to World War ll; visit the Hongkou District, known as the main sanctuary for 30,000 Jews during the war, where immigrants lived and many opened shops catering to their community; continue on to visit a Children’s Palace housed in the old Kadoorie Mansion known as Marble Hall.

Drive to a neighborhood market to see typical Shanghai life as farmers sell their produce. Then visit a Shanghai family home and learn to make Chinese dumplings, then lunch with the family.
